Change is inevitable. Whether we change our hairstyle, our diet or our business, these changes impact our personal and professional lives. In the end, change is vital for survival – otherwise, I wouldn’t be writing this article and you wouldn’t be reading it.

For businesses, many points can come into play:

• Adding new roles/positions within the organization
• Downsizing due to financial restrictions or service/product obsolesce
• Adapting to consumer needs changing or evolving
• A change in technology that impacts your industry
• Moving or expanding a location

If your business needs to face some changes, it isn’t failure! It’s only a failure if you don’t come to terms with the changes that need to be made. You also wouldn’t be the only one who had to face change. Drastic changes can be seen in the past from companies like Apple, Google, PayPal, and Avon!

To give you a recent example of change, my company (Waverley Knobs) recently went through another evolution of services and branding (yes, another – change can happen multiple times). We changed our branding and re-worked our services. This was all done to better fit our clients wants and how marketing was evolving due to technology.

When we first started, we were a boutique creative film company in Boston, MA. As we gained experience and started making more connections, we realized that there was a need to bring cinematic skills into business video content (ex. brand entertainment). Due to this realization, we shifted our primary focus to working with companies to tell their stories.

As we continued to progress, clients looked for a full-service experience that involved video production, graphic design and web design. Luckily for us, we had the skills and tools to implement these services. Changes like these are ideal as we were expanding what we could offer without it costing us anything additional on the resources we already had.

This change gave us the opportunity to provide more value to our current clients while partnering with new exciting businesses. But if we were providing more value, while increasing our clientele, why face more changes? The answer is that further new needs and concepts arose.

Not all businesses are looking for a long-term approach. Others have tight budgets that keeps them from expanding their team. We wanted to make sure we could still be of assistance to these companies by offering consultative services that ranged from reviewing their marketing assets to helping them strategize their content marketing for the next several months. We wanted to make sure to be a helping hand with the direction and usage of potential content for the largest rate of success.

We also expanded our repertoire by adding Social Media Marketing and Community Management. We felt this only made sense, as we’re big proponents of brand continuity. Every client should have their story be told appropriately on all platforms. Our goal is now to make sure we carry over the success being generated from our clients’ websites and graphic design to their social media accounts!

Growing Pains: The Necessary Changes For Your Business - Balancing Act

Change is a balancing act but it’s all for the best of the company and for your clients. If you need some motivation to face the changes, just remember these 3 simple rules in life:

1. If you do not go after what you want, you’ll never have it.
2. If you do not ask, they answer will always be no.
3. If you do not step forward, you will always be in the same place.
